‘Joker’ breaks October record with $93.5 million debut

The R-rated Warner Bros. DC Comics adaptation “Joker” has scored $93.5 million over the weekends and now stands as the biggest October launch of all the time. The Flick directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix has crushed the benchmark previously set last year by the Superhero movie “Venom” with $80 million.

Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz and Frances Conroy, co-starred movie “Joker” takes an unconventional approach to the superhero genre. The flick follows Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), an aspiring comedian who descends into madness as his life and career being to spiral.

The 2012 mass shooting in Aurora, Colo., at a midnight screening of “The Dark Knight Rises” which left 12 people dead and 70 injured has increased fears among the moviegoers.
The fear that the disturbing origin story of Joker could inspire violence which prompted movie theaters to take extra security precautions.

Police increased their presence around multiplexes, and the owners outlawed costumes and face masks in some venues.
