Nobel Peace Prize 2019 has been awarded to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. Mr Abiy Ahmed has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his peacemaking efforts with Eritrea. Abiy Ahmed Ali is the first Ethiopian to be awarded a Nobel Prize.
This year’s prize is also the 100th Nobel Peace Prize. The official Twitter handle of the Nobel Prize has tweeted, “The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2019 to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.”
Ethiopia and Eritrea, longtime foes who fought a border war from 1998 to 2000, restored relations in July 2018 after years of hostility. The prize, worth nine million Swedish crowns, or around $900,000, will be presented in Oslo on Dec. 10.
