Lucknow & Ahmedabad Will Be The New IPL Franchises: The suspense regarding the two new IPL (Indian Premier League) franchises has finally come to an end. BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has announced on 25th October that the two new teams for the league will be of Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow & Gujarat’s Ahmedabad.
BCCI in it’s media release wrote, “The Governing Council of the IPL had issued an Invitation to Tender (“ITT”) to acquire the right to own and operate 2 (two) new franchises. Pursuant to the tender process, various interested parties submitted their bids for the new franchises. The bids were submitted by the authorised representatives of the interested parties at Dubai today”.
Bidders of The New Franchises:
BCCI is pleased to announce the following successful bidders (subject to definitive documentation and other formalities being completed):
1. RPSG Ventures Ltd. – Lucknow (for INR 7090 crores)
2. Irelia Company Pte Ltd. (CVC Capital Partners) – Ahmedabad (for INR 5625 crores)
Both the franchises will participate from the next season of IPL in 2022 onwards when the bidders will complete all the post-bid formalities as mentioned in the ITT document.
2022 season of the league will include ten teams and total of 74 matches will be played in which every team will play 7 home and 7 matches away from their home ground.
