Afghanistan: Nearly 3 Killed, 15 Injured in Blast at Mosque of Nangarhar Province (Representational Image)

Blast At Afghanistan Mosque: At least 3 people were killed and 15 people were injured after a bomb blast occured at a mosque of Afghanistan’s Nangarhar Province told by Taliban spokesperson and locals.

One of the witnesses, whose uncle was injured in the attack, told Al Jazeera that he saw at least 15 injured bodies, including the Imam, who was leading the prayer. He said the explosion took place near where the Imam himself was standing in the crowded mosque.

Blast At Afghanistan Mosque Occured During Friday Prayer:

The blast happened during Friday prayers in the Spin Ghar district of the eastern province. This is the 3rd time Friday prayers were targeted in Afghanistan in the past 2 months. A resident of the area, Atal Shinwari, told the Reuters news agency that the blast occurred at about 1:30pm local time (09:00 GMT) when explosives apparently located in the interior of the mosque detonated.

According to AlJazeera, Walli Mohammed, a local elder and activist, told AFP the bomb appeared to have been hidden in a loudspeaker. When the speaker was switched on to sound the azan – the call to begin the prayer – the device detonated, he said.

Till the time of publishing this article, no group has yet taken the responsibility for the attack.
