Pakistan- At least five people died and several others were wounded in a blast outside the Sufi shrine in the city of Lahore on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The explosion targeted security forces guarding Data Darbar shrine in Lahore.

Earlier, hospital sources told Geo News, at least three dead bodies were brought in to Mayo Hospital while several others are being treated for injuries.

DIG Operations Lahore Ashfaq Ahmad Khan confirmed three police officials died in the blast. A security guard and a resident were also killed in the explosion.

The exact nature of the blast was being ascertained, and it was too early to determine if it was a suicide attack, he told media.

Police and rescue personnel have reached the site of the explosion. Rescue and relief work is underway.
