Biswajit Daimary Joins BJP: Bodoland People’s Front’s Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary Saturday resigned from the Rajya Sabha. He joins BJP Sunday.
Former BPF leader Daimary recently tendered his resignation from the post of working president of BPF to party chief, Hagrama Mohilary.
Daimary was an MLA in the Assam legislative assembly from 2001-2006 and a Rajya Sabha MP from 2008-2014 and from2014-2020.
According to the sources, Daimary will be inducted into the BJP in a grand ceremony that will be held in the presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Daimary wrote in his resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, “As per provision of clause (3)(b) of Article 101 of the Constitution of India and Rule 213 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of States, I hereby resign my seat/membership in the Rajya Sabha with immediate effect”.
Daimary’s resignation came a month before the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections that are scheduled to take place in on December 7 & 10, 2020. BTC elections will be held in two phases.
Sitting MLA from Assam’s Tamulpur constituency, Emmanuel Musahary also resigned from the BPF a few days ago.
The resignation of two prominent leaders from BPF is likely to strengthen BJP’s position in the ensuing BTC elections.

Biswajit Daimary Joins BJP
BJP national parliamentary board Friday formally approved the joining of Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary in the party.
His decision to leave the BPF has irked the supporters of the party, many of whom have staged demonstrations against him and burnt effigies.
